More cast drawing

El Greco

I've got a book on El Greco from the library, with 49 colour plates (!) I'm very taken by his Mary Magdalene's, apparently he did a number of different ones. This is my personal take on one of them.

Faint hearts

Ronnie Lai Taks world famous life drawing sessions on a Saturday at Vernon Mill. I felt rubbish, my drawing was similar.

The cheeky girls - life drawing

Same pose, three drawings. Funny because I forgot my glasses so what you see is what I saw.

Life drawing - At Ronnies

Would have loved another hour, I could have got the face and legs right, plus dug out a proper dark pencil. Still, had a great time, really enjoyed the atmosphere of drawing in a proper studio. And there's plenty to be pleased with here

Life drawing

From a one hour pose. Well, it didnt start at 7pm and we stopped for tea about ten to 8 so lets say a 45 minute pose.

Life drawing - challenge

When the pose was set I ended up in not the best position. Annette challenged me to stay where I was and complete this.

Glad I did it, despite the many failings, overall I like this a lot, so much so that I may even take a proper picture.

Drawing from the model - lessons

First drawing with graphite sticks or crayons. Bit random where the point of a graphite crayon actually is due to the thickness of them, so eyes and things can be a bit tricky. Barbara was the model, this drawing does not look like her, outlines and positioning of elements is ok, so that's a plus. Took approx an hour. Rembrandt was our artist tonight.

Model -using graphite crayon

First picture shows some preparatory sketches and exercises. Contour drawing, study in movement, drawing shade only.

Still life

Some flowers, Jackie liked them. Our aim was just to draw the shading without drawing the lines. It was going OK then I got down to the vase and suddenly realised I had to come from rather a loose technique to something a bit different and that threw me.

Life drawing

It was good, there just wasn't enough of it. I reckon to finish I would need to spend about eight hours on something when realism is on my mind. Happy enough with the drawing, still waiting for a style and maturity to appear but that will come with time and practice.

Life drawing

One of the better pictures I've done, foreshortening and I wrestled and I think I held my own with this one. Wish there was a greater contrast between the lightest and darkest areas but I think when I look at it I don't see any area that's wrong, just areas that needed a bit more.

Portrait -young man with earphones

What a splendid model this young man was, really interesting face for drawing and held the pose wonderfully. He kept his earphones in as you may be able to see, wish I had made a bit more of them. A lady sitting next to me very kindly said it was sensitively done which was great.

Life drawing

This is a story of what might have been. I am happy with the drawing and blocking out on all parts but the top left corner of the picture doesn't quite look right. In my defence I'm convinced that the model moved after the break but I should have accommodated that much better. Not terribly happy with the way that it looks like I have taken a dark pencil and outlined everything; I didn't. I'd been reading about blocking in. Overall I'm still very happy with this.

Portrait - Emily

This is one of my better drawings, spoiled only by the ear which is too small. I was very pleased with how like the sitter this one turned out, usually I put about twenty years on them but this I reckon is pretty good. I think her name is Emily, apologies if not, she modelled for portraiture at the Stockport Art Guild.

Earth palette

This time was an earth palette, this was the week after the cool palette. Acrylics again, they're two bread rolls in the middle, the smell of which was making me hungry. The vase on the right came out really well and Jackie and I both like the teapot lid at the back in the centre.

Cool palette

I think we were doing a cool palette, I really cant remember. I was pleased with the areas where the paper comes through, funny that the bits I like are not the bits that I painted. I was just glad not to overdo it.
