Week two- portrait course

Still a lot of work to do. It's been really difficult doing this, the angles and the measurements seem to constantly change.

Three weeks left to finish this.

Copying the old masters

Jackies got us copying the old masters this term, so it had to be Vermeer for me. Here's week 2, tonal painting, to be continued.

Sunday 26 April 2015

Life drawing

I like this too. I think I may try and work this up into a larger piece.

Life drawing

Got the angles right after wrestling with this for the full two hours.

Still life

I'm unfeasibly happy with this.

Northern Realist: five week portrait course

First day on a five-Saturday portrait course run by Chris Clements, the Northern Realist.

Having a great time with an excellent teacher. I'm using charcoal, did some exercises, this is the piece that will be worked up for the next few weeks.

Interruption

Due to me having had a full shoulder replacement I am unable to draw or paint at the moment. Please check back often.

School trip to St George's church

Not school but myself and the rest of Jackie's beginning painting and drawing class made the short trip to St George's church.
I tried to get the two planes as it were.

Self portrait graphite pencil

In progress. It was really exciting to watch an image emerge from the tonal mass, I'm thrilled with this. Loads to improve including composition and tones. Updates to follow.

One hour poses life drawing

Hopefully the evolution of my drawing continues. My concern is that I have little or no finished pieces but I'm learning to draw: I have to start at the beginning. I'm happy with the proportions of these and the tonal mass of the second so onwards and upwards

Pastels

Wow, didn't like using these, like chalks.

Self portrait monochrome

Work in progress, some of the darkest are too dark and with it being acrylic I'm not sure what to do.

Updates to follow.

Done too much and my lack of skill at painting has affected the end result. Good practice, look forward to the next now.

Stage one/two - Articulation

Without any suitable lighting I'm struggling slightly, but here I am on stage 2 or 3 of a six or seven stage process. Updates to follow.

Portrait in acrylics

Try as I might I still cant resist jumping in with the detail. This has done me some good -I'm finally so fed up with this that for the next few weeks I'm just going to be working this one out of my system for good.

Anyway that tendency got the better of me here I think. Still a good picture but...

Self Portrait

Can't get the models, so had a go myself.
